Measure the enclosure
Record the internal length, width and height in centimetres or millimetres. Use the same unit for all three measurements. The ReptiRad size calculator accepts either unit and calculates the enclosure volume.
For example, 100 × 60 × 60cm is 360 litres. Entering 1000 × 600 × 600mm describes the same enclosure. This tells you its volume, but not how much heat it loses.
Also measure the usable ceiling space. Cable routing, fixtures, decoration and safe separation from animals can limit where a panel fits.
Account for the room and enclosure
Two enclosures with the same volume can need different heating setups. Record the enclosure material, ventilation, typical room temperature and the temperatures required in the warm and cool areas. Include the lowest room temperature you expect during normal use.
The size calculator uses a baseline of approximately 22–24°C. Selecting “room cooler than 22°C” moves the estimate up one panel size. If that would exceed 220W, it directs you to the team for advice.
Compare output and physical fit
| Model | Panel footprint | Thickness |
|---|---|---|
| 40W | 209 × 185mm | 18.5mm |
| 80W | 310 × 234mm | 18.5mm |
| 125W | 400 × 294mm | 18.5mm |
| 220W | 450 × 474mm | 18.5mm |
A larger wattage is not a substitute for correct control or a suitable layout. The European manual specifies ceiling mounting, preferably at one end, to help create warm and cooler areas. Check the mounting guidance before choosing a model.
Confirm the complete setup
Use a compatible dimming or pulse-proportional thermostat and check its voltage and load rating against your panel. Choose your temperatures from appropriate guidance for the species; wattage is not a temperature setting.
Before introducing the animal, the European manual requires at least 24 hours of operation with the other enclosure equipment running. Confirm stable, appropriate temperatures in the different zones.
What to send us if you are unsure
Include your country, enclosure dimensions and material, ventilation, room-temperature range, intended species, target temperatures and other heat sources. Ask for sizing advice before ordering if any part of the setup is uncertain.
